“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)
Whatever you’ve ever been told or shown about God, whatever you’re telling and showing others about God, if it’s not good then it’s the wrong thing.
God and good go hand in hand. You could safely say God is good and good is God.
The Gospel is the Good News of a Good God. It’s about God’s Goodness towards mankind. The Gospel is the news and announcement concerning Jesus Christ. Now when He was born the angels sang – Glory in the highest and on earth peace, GOOD WILL towards men with whom God is well pleased. -See Luke 2:13,14.
The Gospel is not about a vengeful wrathful God set on kicking us into hell fire. It’s about a good God who doesn’t will that any perish but that all come to the saving knowledge of His Son, the lamb that carried all the sin of the world.
Jesus is God’s good news to all of us. He came to preach good news to all of us who were poor. We were all poor in some way. Sin is poverty, so is guilt, condemnation, the curse, sickness, poverty, suffering, bondage, and destruction. The ultimate poverty was destruction. But Jesus brought us the Good News of a Good God who delivers out of all poverty.
The Good in the Gospel is this:
God has already reconciled us with Himself through Jesus Christ, He’s not holding anything against us. He’s availed Himself to us, we can freely live in a relationship and fellowship with Him.
