He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. Psalm 145:19 (NIV)
In the mind of many Christians, ‘desires’ mostly fall towards the unholy. Ungodly desires, desires of the flesh, sexual desires, – this is the most frequent use of the word ‘desires’ among believers and preachers. But there are good, holy, godly, healthy desires. We are commanded to desire spiritual gifts – 1Corinthians 14:1, desiring ministry is desiring a good work – 1Timothy 3:1 The desire to live, to marry, to have family, to succeed in studies, in a skill, in ministry or business – all these are godly desires. God fulfills the desires of those who fear or worship Him. One expression of fearing or worshipping God is to delight in Him. When we delight or take pleasure in the Lord, He gives us the desires of our heart – Psalm 37:4. When the Lord is our delight or pleasure then the desires of our heart are godly and holy so He fulfills them. Fulfillment in life is this – you set your heart on the Lord, this births godly, holy desires in you and then the Lord fulfills them.
