But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together. Genesis 22:7-8 (NKJV).
Abraham called God Jehovah Jireh meaning the God who provides. God is the source of every good and beneficial thing. That alone would be so wonderful but He’s more than that, he’s also a provider! We see him in the beginning creating everything suitable for life before he created man. It was on the sixth day that man was created after God had finished making everything man would need to live on the planet. Man opened his eyes the first time in the sight of God’s abundant provision! Jesus revealed most clearly and plainly this God who provides. He revealed him to us as our heavenly Father who provides for all his creation. He said the birds of the air do not sow, reap or gather into barns but Father God provides for them. Matthew 6:26.
Even the grass of the field that doesn’t toil or spin he provides for it clothing, fashion and design! Matthew 6:28-30.
We are of more value to God than the birds and the grass. He is our provider; he faithfully provides for our every need. His ultimate provision of everything good and beneficial for all humanity and creation for all eternities came in person in His Son Jesus Christ. For God so loved the world that he gave His Son Jesus Christ that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? give us all things? Romans 8:32. He provides!
