” The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; Luke 4:18 (NKJV).
Luke 4:18 was Jesus’ mission statement. This is the purpose for which God came as a man, lived and walked among us then died on the cross and rose from the dead. He came to free us so we may live freely, limitlessly. His very name pointed to his mission. You shall call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21. Jesus is Yeshua in Hebrew. The root word of the name Yeshua is Yesha and it means free open wide space. This is why he came, so we may enter into and live in the free open wide space of the very liberty and rest of God himself! He came to set us free from sin, condemnation, satan, death, fear, oppression, the sense of unworthiness and inferiority, rejection, barrenness and enmity towards God and fellow man.
Now he has already done and finished setting all of us free. He accomplished this on the cross. His Word which is the truth declares that:
He has freed us from our sins by his blood Revelation 1:5b NIV.
He has delivered us from the rule of darkness and transferred us into his kingdom. Colossians 1:13.
He has destroyed him who had the power of death and freed us from the fear of death. Hebrews 2:14-15 Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the devil’s hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death. (MSG).
Now whom the Son sets free is free indeed. John 8:36. We are free indeed. Believers should think, pray, talk, act, sing, and preach more of their freedom in the Lord instead of seeking deliverance. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. Psalms 107:2. Let us whom he has set free declare we are free! Let us proclaim this very same liberty to the others out there who haven’t yet known and embraced this freedom already available to them in Christ.
