Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper meet (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him. Genesis 2:18 (AMPC)
The number one reason God made a helper for man was so the man shouldn’t be alone.
It is not good, it is not sufficient; it is not satisfactory to be alone. God Himself is one but not alone. He is one “what” (nature, essence) but three “whos” (three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). So God is in a fellowship that’s all sufficient, and all satisfied.
A helper is not primarily someone who does things for you or even does things you can’t do yourself.
A helper is that one who is one with you.
A helper is one you are one with in spirit, mind, and body.
In making a helper for Adam, God took a rib from his side (a place of intimacy) and out of it made Eve. Genesis 2:21,22. This signified that a helper is that close intimate one in your life – one who is part of you.
When Adam saw Eve he saw himself, so he said “at last flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones”. Genesis 2:23.
A helper is a companion – one to share and care. A helper is one you freely equally joyfully share everything together with. A helper is one to care for one another.
A suitable helper is one you share dreams, vision, purpose and plan.
A companion or the one you can freely equally share everything together with must be equal with you or else it wouldn’t be possible. This is the reason why Adam couldn’t find a suitable helper from the animals – not from a dog or a cat. Genesis 2:20
Adam couldn’t share or fellowship completely and perfectly with a crocodile or a chimpanzee.
No one should be all alone and neither should anybody be lonely for we come from a God family (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) who are in fulfilled fellowship.
Man is an idea and product of fellowship. For God said “let US (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make man in OUR likeness. We were created for fellowship.
A suitable helper is one fit for fellowship.
