Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:14 (AKJV)
A straight and narrow path is a no compromise and no substitute way of living.
It is honest conduct in all the affairs of our life, avoiding any misrepresentation of Christ as His envoys whether there’s someone seeing us or not. It is being single minded, neither turning to the right nor to the left but rather looking straight on ahead. It’s staying away from what’s evil. Proverbs 4:27(NKJV) Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.
This is a consistent lifestyle that starts in the truth and integrity of God’s Word and continues there in to the end.
Here the same standard of God’s righteousness is applied in every aspect of life without exceptions or excuses in some areas. For example we heed and follow the Lord’s counsel and guidance not just in ministry or church matters but also at home, business, entertainment and leisure. We look to the wisdom and power of God’s Word and Spirit in both very big and small decision making moments.
The straight and narrow path is a from faith to faith life – meaning everything we do or get involved in is all about depending on the Lord from start to finish. We do not start in the spirit or God’s grace and then end up in the flesh or self-effort. We do not begin by trusting in God then when the church or project or business grows big and self-reliant then we run it based on human experience, financial power and expertise.
