I will bless the Lord, Who has given me counsel; yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons. Psalm 16:7, 11 (AMPC)
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
God leads and guides us in the right path of life by giving us counsel.
We avoid hitting miss, waste, loss, harm and destruction by heeding and acting on the counsel of the Lord.
Success in every area of life is the direct automatic result of acting on God’s counsel.
The counsel of the Lord also means the plans of His heart.
Psalms 33:11 (AMPC) The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
We often think that the solution to the problems or troubles we are facing is trying harder at what we are doing, human help, money, or certain connections but the truth is godly counsel is what we really need.
Then after godly counsel will lead to everything else that’s required.
The most dangerous thing in life is to despise the counsel of the Lord because rejecting godly counsel is rejecting life and wellbeing.
Psalms 107:10, 11(AMPC) Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Bound in affliction and irons—Because they rebelled against the words of God, And despised the counsel of the Most High.
While on a ship the Apostle Paul perceived or received the counsel of God that the sailing ahead of them would be disastrous with loss not only of cargo but also of lives. Acts 27:9-10.
But the army officer in charge of them and their travel despised and dismissed Paul’s advice and instead paid attention to and went with what the pilot and owner of the ship said. Acts 27:11.
Also the harbor was not well situated and so unsuitable to winter in, the majority favored the plan of putting to sea again from there. Acts 27:12.
Most often the counsel of God contradicts what we see, feel and what everyone else around us says.
Acts 27:13 (AMPC) So when the south wind blew softly, supposing they were gaining their object, they weighed anchor and sailed.
Furthermore outward circumstances appear more reasonable and practical making the counsel of God look foolish and impractical.
The course of action that your senses and situation dictate isn’t always the right one. Therefore always inquire and follow after godly counsel even when it seems illogical.
The danger that Paul foresaw actually happened, they lost the cargo and all the ship but their lives were saved and that because God graciously intervened. Acts 27:14-44.
The counsel of God is His Word. See- Psalms 107:11(NKJV)
The counsel of God is also the instruction, intuition, knowing or inward witness in our heart. See-Psalms 16:7. Therefore we seek and follow godly counsel by following His Word and the inward witness in our heart.
