No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. Philippians 3:13 (NLT)
Mr Yesterday is gone and won’t come back. He was a good man, we had a wonderful time with him. There were some moments with him we wish had never happened. There are also things we so wanted to do with him which we never got to.
We sure shall miss him. But then he’s buried and as for us who remain life goes on. We can’t stay here at the grave mourning for him for the rest of the days we still have on earth. It changes nothing. It only makes matters worse.
Yesterday is gone and can’t come back. So are those who are set on following him.
Holding onto yesterday is like the proverbial fly that was buried with the carcass because it wouldn’t let go.
Now Mr Today is here all fresh and full of countless opportunities!
But fresh today can’t blend with expired yesterday. Updated today isn’t compatible with outdated yesterday.
Let go of yesterday. Release the hurts, disappointments, pains, shame, regrets, and failures of the past. Whatever you want to achieve; like Paul who finished his course in his lifetime let this one thing be your focus – Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.
Stuck in yesterday’s problems is being absent while sticking with today’s program is being present. Here’s what the Lord God says – “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands. Isaiah 43:18-19 (MSG)
