So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer. Romans 12:1(GNT)
Many think that worship is something you do when you go to church. Still others think it’s that segment in the church service immediately after the praise session where you sing slow mood songs!
Others have even taught that worship is a place, an experience, a process. But worship though embracing all those aspects goes far beyond all of them.
Worship is an ongoing intimate relationship and fellowship with God that influences every area of our life and the world around us. It’s God in us and us in Him. Because we are the temple or permanent home of God and His Holy Spirit dwells and lives in us forever.1 Corinthians 3:16 (AMPC) Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God’s temple (His sanctuary), and that God’s Spirit has His permanent dwelling in you [to be at home in you, collectively as a church and also individually]?
Worship is a participation in God’s life, love and light. Worship is not necessarily about a place, state or condition. No matter where you are, no matter the circumstances, no matter how you feel you are always intimately connected and in communion with God in your spirit. This is what Jesus told the Samaritan woman and consequently all of us.
John 4:21, 23, 24 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God [is] Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Our sharing equally together all things with God in our spirit can then overflow and influence our mind, emotions, body, relationships and environment.
For example the life, peace, joy, rest, wisdom and power always existing in our spirit through our communion with the Holy Spirit can and should over flood and influence our soul (mind, will, emotions), body, relationships, actions, work and surroundings thereby saturating everything and everywhere with God. This is worshipping God in spirit and in truth. This is all of life as a sacred act of worship.
