My son, keep your father’s command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you Proverbs 6:20-22(NKJV)
The Father’s command and the mother’s law mean the Word of God. We are to be governed and directed by the Word of God for it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path – Psalms 119:105. Binding the Word upon our heart and tying it around our neck implies continually looking into the Word so that we are one with it. This is when the Word starts to lead us. It shapes our thinking, influences our actions and forms our character.
