and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Ephesians 2:16-18 (NKJV)
In the Cross Christ reconciled us to God in His Body. He destroyed the enmity of our sin, guilt, shame, and condemnation by taking it all in Himself on the Cross.
Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
We now have peace with God through Christ in what He accomplished for us in His Cross. We have access to the Father.
