The Lord is my Light and my Salvation–whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life–of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27:1 (AMPC)
There’s nothing on earth or in hell to fear or dread for the children of God. Because we are in God, we live and move in Him.
The Lord Himself is our refuge. He’s our place of safety and preservation.
Everything to do with dread, danger, and destruction comes from the kingdom of darkness. But thank God we are no longer in the kingdom of darkness.
Colossians 1:13 (NIV) For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.
Father God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness which is the source of all fear, anxiety, panic, alarm and terror.
He has brought us into the kingdom of His Beloved Son. This is the kingdom of Light where there’s no fear.
When you’re in the light there’s no cause for fear, there’s nothing to fear because everything is clearly and plainly exposed in the light.
That’s why our text Scripture has said – The Lord is my Light and my Salvation–whom shall I fear or dread?
The way the Lord is our refuge is by being our Light. In other words His Light in our life is our refuge.
Light is knowledge. The knowledge of God is our refuge.
It’s the knowledge of God that drives out all manner of fear, anxiety, and terror. It’s in this light or knowledge of God that our hearts and minds are freed from the darkness of worries, uncertainties, threats, phobias, and horrors.
The light or knowledge that the Lord is with us and for us drives out all alarm and panic. This is what it means that the Lord is our refuge.
For example the light or knowledge that Christ is our life is our refuge from the threat of sickness and death. The light or knowledge of Jehovah Jireh – the Lord our provider, is our refuge from the onslaught of lack and poverty. Take refuge in the Lord as you get acquainted and illuminated with the Light or knowledge of who He is to you.
The Lord is your refuge
