For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my Rock and my Salvation, my Defense and my Fortress, I shall not be greatly moved. Psalms 62:1-2 (AMPC)
Many people have and trust in a number of defenses.
Scripture itself notes that wisdom is a defense, money is also a defense -see Ecclesiastes 7:12.
Experience, training, education, career, social status, political power, military might, material possessions are all defenses. But all these defenses are not unbreachable. They can be penetrated and brought down. So, they can disappoint the one who trusts in them.
Psalms 20:7-8(NIV) Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
Chariots speak of man-made inventions, devices, technology, scientific innovations, and weapons, while horses speak of natural physical strength and ability as well as intellectual prowess. These things are limited and can fail even as it has happened over and over in history and in our own time.
The only one true impregnable defense is God. He is our one defense.
When we pass through the waters, He is with us, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm us. When we walk through the fire, we will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon us- see Isaiah 43:2. In other words the Lord is our perfect defense against any harm, trouble or danger.
He’s our defense against the unseen and the seen. He’s our defense against any virus strain as well as any relationship strain or economic strain. No one who places his trust in this one defense who’s the Lord shall be put to shame for this defense is forever immovable.
