Therefore, if anyone [is] in Christ, [he is] a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
God has done something new in and to us. He has put us in Christ and brought Christ into us. We are no longer who we used to be and where we used to be. We have a new identity, a new location. We have a new life. Not of our own efforts but by God’s working we are in Christ – 1 Corinthians 1:30
This means we are joined, united, one with Christ in spirit, much like a branch is one with its parent tree. Jesus put it this way “I am the Vine you are the branches” John 15:5. Just like the branch takes its nature and lives by the Vine, so do we take our nature and live by Christ.
Christ is now our life – Colossians 3:4. In him we live, move, and have our being – Acts 17:28.
There are those who say they are sinners saved by grace. Believers are not sinners saved by grace. Rather we were sinners, then grace came and saved us from sin. We are no longer sinners, or as the Apostle Paul puts it, we are no longer slaves to sin. We have been saved and made righteous in Christ. The old way of sin and death has passed away. When they say someone has passed away it means they are deceased, they have ceased to be, they have died, they are no more. That’s exactly what happened to the sinful, dead, sick, ungodly, defeated, cursed, slavery, poor, oppressed life we used to live. The new has come and is here. The God kind of life has come into us. We are now possessors of the life, peace, joy, rest, strength, wisdom, victory, blessing, goodness, righteousness and holiness of God! We should now reckon or count ourselves dead as far as the old is concerned and alive and living the new life in Christ.
See yourself new in Christ. Tell yourself that I’m a new creation in Christ. I have a new spirit, a new heart full of God. Declare boldly that Christ is my life now, I’m righteous and holy in him.
