The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. 1 John 3:8b (AMPC)…
Taking and holding people captive is what the works of the devil is all about. Therefore Jesus came to earth to undo captivity and set the captives free.
We were captives of sin, guilt, condemnation, fear, sickness, the curse, poverty, and death. Jesus came right into our captivity, took it upon Himself and then destroyed it. For example He who knew sin became sin for us, bore all our sins in His own body on the Cross and thus freed us from the captivity of sin by giving us His Righteousness. –See 2Corinthians 5:21.
He bore our diseases thereby freeing us from the captivity of sickness. Matthew 8:17(AMPC). And thus He fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases.
He freed us from the captivity of the curse, being made the curse for us. Galatians 3:13 (AMPC) Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified).
He freed us from the captivity of poverty, being made poor so that we were made rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NKJV) For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
He freed us from the captivity of death and the fear of it. Hebrews 2:14-15 (AMPC) 14Since, therefore, [these His] children share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar manner partook of the same [nature], that by [going through] death He might bring to naught and make of no effect him who had the power of death–that is, the devil– 15And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.
You should no longer live in captivity of anything, for the Son of God has set you free. Proclaim and praise Him who freed you from captivity. Declare and thank the Lord for your freedom from captivity.
