I therefore the prisoner for the Lord, appeal to and beg you to walk (lead a life) worthy of the [divine] calling to which you have been called [with behavior that is a credit to the summons to God’s service, Ephesians 4:1 (AMPC)
We have been called by God into His service to partner and work together with Him. We are not here to get involved in and do just anything and everything.
People often talk with pride about how they’ve done every kind of odd job to make it in life but that’s not God’s way and best.
Still others are involved in so many things to the point they are ineffective and exhausted. Yet more others are really spending and wasting themselves in areas where they’re not fitted for. But it shouldn’t be like that.
Every one of us has a divine calling on His life. We each have a road God has set for us to travel. He has summoned us to a predetermined purpose. Before we were even born the life and things we would do here were already planned and established by God. We don’t choose our calling we find or discover it.
The Lord tells Jeremiah that before He formed him in his mother’s womb He knew him, and He chose him to be a prophet. See- Jeremiah 1:5. Likewise God knew all of us before we were born and chose a definite vocation and path for each one.
The journey of true satisfied living begins with finding our individual calling. You have not begun to live until you find your purpose – the reason you’re here on earth for.
Finding your calling begins with getting to know the One who called you. This is not mere casual head knowledge of facts about Him but really an ongoing daily intimate acquaintance with Him.
John 17:3 (AMPC) And this is eternal life: [it means] to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and [likewise] to know Him, Jesus [as the] Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom You have sent.
As we relate and fellowship with God we will find out what His thoughts or purposes for our life are. Just as a person cannot hide his intents from a close intimate trusted friend, the Lord can never hide but rather discloses the plans of His heart to His beloved.
John 15:15 (AMPC) I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.]
Our calling is the particular area or areas where we can best give, serve, and help others live and walk out who they are in Christ.
From parenting to pastoring, instructing toddlers to training professionals, sharing the little you have with your neighbor to financing mega projects, leading a family to leading a nation, each one’s calling is to freely give and employ the gifts and abilities we’ve been freely given to serve one another as unto and in honor of the Lord.
