“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14 (NKJV)
We are a city or a dwelling place of divine life and activity. We are set on a hill — our life is an elevated platform visible to all near and far. Those who are looking for pulpits to preach and teach in places and buildings and certain occasions ought to know that they themselves, their lives are the best pulpits. There’s already a watching, attentive and responsive audience.
Light is knowledge. It’s through the believer that a dark and lost world gets to know God one on one.
The light of the knowledge of God’s love, grace, faith and power is best clearly plainly seen in the believer in his normal daily life. Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Your light as a believer is the knowledge of God in you that you practically live and walk out in your daily ordinary waking up, going about your affairs, and dealings with people and situations.
When you live and conduct yourself with the conviction and consciousness of God being with you, in you and for you it will be visible to all near and far. The peace, rest, confidence and contentment peculiar to a life suffused with God will be clearly evident in you. Then your audience will crave and ask for what you have.
You’re a city on a hill in your family, among your relatives, in your neighborhood, at your workplace. You’re a city on a hill in that long inconvenient line at the bank, super market or hospital. You’re a city on a hill in that frustrating traffic jam behind that aggravating motorist. Let your light shine. Showcase the love, calm, kindness, patience, and understanding as a child of God. Then your Heavenly Father will be glorified.
