he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5 (NLT)
When the prodigal son came back home the Father said “this my son was lost but now is found, he was dead but now he’s alive”. It was so to speak a second birth for that young man. He was in a sense born again.
That son needed to awaken to and come to a realisation of his true self, his true identity. When he was out there wasted, in want, suffering and shame, estranged from his father, family, home and inheritance, the Scripture says that “and he came to himself” How? He remembered where he came from and belonged – his father, his father’s house.
This is exactly what Jesus came to do for us. He came from the Father and put on our shoes, walked our journey of lost-ness and prodigal-ness. He took on our humanity, our weakness, carried out sins, experienced firsthand our sufferings and pain that resulted from estrangement from our Father.
But beyond that He brought us to a realisation of our true original self, our true identity as beloved sons and daughters of God. He awakened us to the face and place of our birth – our Loving Heavenly Father.
Through Faith in Jesus Christ we have received a second and new birth. Hallelujah we are born again. We are born of God.
If you like the prodigal son are still wallowing in lost-ness, wastefulness, want, suffering and regret it’s not too late to come back home to your family, father and inheritance.
Believe on Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God, look to Him and you shall experience the second birth.
