Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:25-27(NKJV)
Water washes off dirt and impurities. In other words, it cleanses. The Word of God does exactly the same but from a different dimension. Just as there’s physical dirt and impurities that can cause negative and destructive effects, there’s spiritual, emotional and psychological dirt and impurities that are negative and destructive. The Word of God washes us and cleanses us from all spiritual, emotional and psychological pollution.
John 15:3(NKJV) You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
The Word that Jesus speaks to us washes and makes us clean because it is life.
John 6:63 (NKJV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and [they] are life.
The life of God in His Word washes and cleanses us from the dirt and impurities of death in all its various forms. When the Word tell us we are created in God’s image and likeness it washes and cleanses us from every distorted view of our selves like low self-esteem or sense of unworthiness.
The Word washes and cleanses us from the lie that we are alone and abandoned when He says …”I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Hebrews 13:5 (AMPC)
We are washed and cleansed from fear as we hear the Word encouraging and strengthening us that “Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice”. Isaiah 41:10 (AMPC)
The Word washes and purifies from demonic uncleanness and oppression. Matthew 8:16(AMPC)
When evening came, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and He drove out the spirits with a word and restored to health all who were sick.
As you are reading, listening to, studying, and meditating on the Word of God you are being washed and cleansed. When you share the Word with another person it washes and cleanses them.
