I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.” Psalms 39:1(NIV)
Watching your ways is all about being careful about what you do and how to act right at all times.King David at the beginning of this Psalm tells us exactly how to do and act right and that is to always restrain ourselves in what we say most especially when confronted with wickedness. It is so easy to act right and nice when everyone and everything around you is right and nice. But when what’s unjust, unfair, or evil assaults us most people react by fighting evil with evil and end up defeated. Scripture says do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good – Romans 12:21.Muzzling your mouth in the presence of the wicked means not letting the bad done to you cause you to do the same or even something worse. When Jesus was insulted, He didn’t insult back, He did not abuse or threaten those that insulted and hurt Him. He let God set things right. – 1Peter 2:23. That’s how He overcame and that’s how we overcome.
