And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called [the Place] of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. John 19:17-18 (NKJV)
This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10 (NLT).
The hill Golgotha meaning place of the skull is the scene where God’s undying love for us was graphically demonstrated. It was here that the Son of God, Jesus Christ the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world was crucified.
Jewish tradition has it that this is the very place where David after he had killed Goliath, cut off his head, brought it and buried it here. David means beloved, so a greater beloved who is Jesus crushed the head of mankind’s ultimate goliath the devil on this same hill. Oh this is a hill of the beloveds! Here God loved us arms wide open as portrayed in Jesus’ stretched out arms on the Cross of the Crucifixion. It is a beloved hill!
Golgotha the place of Grace. It’s here that the prophecy of scripture was fulfilled, all that God said in scripture that He would do for and in man. In Genesis 3:15 right after the fall of man God spoke to the serpent or the devil that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head meaning to totally destroy. Jesus is the seed of the woman who on Golgotha hill crushed the serpent’s head. Here he destroyed him that had the power of death that’s the devil and freed us who all our lives were held in bondage by the fear of death. See-Hebrews 2:14-15.
God also said the serpent would bruise the heel of the woman’s seed. Here on this hill Jesus’ heel was bruised. …He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. Isaiah 53:5. (AMPC).
On this hill Jesus took on our curse on the cross and his blessing came on us. Galatians 3:13. What a cherished hill! Here on this hill heaven on earth became possible. Hallelujah!
