Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” John 4:39 (NIV)
After Jesus spoke and ministered to her at the well, all that the Samaritan woman did that stirred up faith in others so that they also came to Jesus and believed in Him was testify of what He had said to her.
The majority of us mostly know and talk about how a young shepherd boy brought down an experienced battle hardened warrior giant with only one little stone from a sling shot. We get poetic about the one little stone that went up up up and the giant came tumbling down.
Yet behind the scenes it wasn’t all about the boy, the sling shot or the stone. It was the testimony that built the faith that brought down goliath.
David testified as he rushed towards the kill.
Let’s look at David’s testimony.
David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” 1 Samuel 17:32 (NIV)
But king Saul discouraged David. Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.” 1 Samuel 17:33 (NIV)
Nonetheless David was undaunted, he held fast onto his testimony:
1 Samuel 17:34-37(NIV) 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35 I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
It was the testimony of what God had done before in David’s life that built faith in him to go after Goliath, striking him down, and bringing victory for Israel over their enemies.
Let the testimony of what God has ever done for you, gotten you through, brought you to, run in your mouth and it will build faith in you that will cause you to run forward in victory over everything that’s daring and defying you and your God.
