Luke 18:13 (NLT) “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’
We will always fall far behind if we seek to meet with God on the ground of merit. Our best good works are already dead works because they are not the result of reliance on God’s life and power but on our own human striving.
God’s throne – His place and position of authority, power and judgment is called the Mercy Seat. This means God’s attitude is Mercy, He operates from a stance of Mercy.
It’s Mercy we need because as long as we are still in this fallen world, in this mortal body with a mind that is still being renewed we will miss it somewhere, we will make mistakes, we will need help and therefore we will always need Mercy.
Rely on God’s Mercy and not your merits. His help, His support, His working in your life is not because of what you deserve, what’s due to you, what you have done right but because He is Merciful to you.
