My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27 (NKJV)
Sheep can’t do much for themselves by themselves. They totally depend on the shepherd for everything. The shepherd leads, tends, guides, provides for and protects the sheep. All that is expected of the sheep is to listen to the voice of the shepherd and follow. Therefore, the sheep depend on listening or hearing. Our life depends on listening to what the good shepherd is saying to us. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not lack. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters. In all this our response is to listen and follow. That’s how the I shall not lack part comes to fulfilment. As we hear and follow, we find help, comfort, strength, provision, rest, and safety. He speaks in our hearts and that’s where we listen for his voice. He speaks peace. Psalms 85:8. To listen to and follow his peace in our hearts is how we hear his voice and follow him. As we spend time fellowshipping with him in the Word, prayer, worship, thanksgiving we clearly hear this peace in our hearts. It is this peace that helps us make right decisions in life. If we don’t sense peace in the heart regarding what we are about to do or are doing then we know the voice of the Saviour is saying it’s not right. When we sense peace in our hearts over what we are pursuing then the voice of the Saviour is calling to say keep going it’s alright.
