Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. James 1:26 (NIV)
Your tongue has total control over you because it has the power of life and death. Proverbs 18:21. This should not frighten us because we retain the power to direct our tongue to release life or death. Keeping a tight rein on our tongue is keeping it in check over what it speaks. The power of the tongue is in what it speaks because words have power to bring things to pass.
Choose carefully what you say with your tongue and that’s how you choose the course of your life. Do not for a second allow your tongue to speak death or defeat, discouragement or anything that puts you or others down.
Let your tongue be a tree of life as you say life filled and life giving words not only to yourself but to others as well. Bless with your tongue do not curse. Praise with your tongue, do not complain. Build yourself and others with your tongue do not tear down. Heal yourself and others with your tongue do not harm or hurt.
Finally the best way to hold your tongue in check is to yield it and keep it under the omnipotent power of the Name of Jesus and Word of God. Let your tongue always confess the Name of Jesus and the Word.
