For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. 1 Peter 1:23 (NLT)
There’s a play of words here but it all brings out and affirms our identity in God.
Imagine you’re having a conversation with God.
He has spoken to you first so now you respond affirmatively.
You tell Him “I am who You say I am”
But here is another way of looking at those same words only with commas added and the letters of the first I am all capitalized.
“I AM, who You say, I am”
I AM is God so you’re saying “God, who You say, I am. Or “God I am who You say.
God or I AM always says or speaks His Word.
Therefore I am I AM’s Word. I am God’s Word.
God gave birth to me with His Word. I am born of IAM’s Word.
James 1:18 (NIV) He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.
The Word of God defines and describes me perfectly.
Just as the Word is living, powerful and active so am I.
Just as the Word is incorruptible and abides forever I am also.
We are who God says we are. We are what the Word of God says we are.
We are loved, forgiven, holy, delivered, healed, blessed, favored, empowered.
Our true identity is in God, in His Word.
