And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. 1 John 2:25(NKJV)
God is a promise maker and keeper. Throughout scripture we see Him do just that to men and women. He makes promises and then fulfills them. Some promises were fulfilled to those people in their lifetime while other promises were fulfilled in their descendants’ lifetime, where a promise made to a person is fulfilled in the lives of their children or even children’s children or even several generations later.
Even today we are witnessing and living and in the fulfilment of the promises that God made long time ago.
We want to look at one such promise that God made. It’s the promise of eternal life or the God kind of life. It’s God’s uttermost desire that all people enjoy this life that He Himself has and enjoys.
Titus 1:2 tells us of the hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began. So, this is a promise God made way back even before creation!
When God created man, it was with the intention that man lives forever. God has never wanted man to die. But then man sinned and death followed sin. But thanks to God who had already made the promise of eternal life for and to all mankind.
This promise as all the promises of God is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:1(NKJV) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus. Through the death of Jesus our redemption from sin made it possible for us to receive this promise.
Hebrews 9:15(NKJV) And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
Every one whether Jew or Gentile has access to God’s promise if life in Christ through the Gospel. Ephesians 3:6(NKJV) that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel.
This is the Gospel or Good News; this is the Testimony or Witness of God – that God has already given us Eternal Life and this Life is in His Son Jesus Christ. Whoever has the Son Jesus Christ has Eternal Life. 1John 5:11- 12. God’s promise of Eternal Life in Christ Jesus is available to everyone and is received by whosoever receives Jesus.
