Praised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [Born anew] into an inheritance which is beyond the reach of change and decay [imperishable], unsullied and unfading, reserved in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4 (AMPC)
All that hired servants ever get is wages or a salary. But children get much more than a payment even if they work on their parents’ estate or business. Children are heirs so they have and get an inheritance from their parents. So, it is with us as children of God. Though we serve with a servant’s heart just like Jesus, we are sons and daughters of God Almighty.
Romans 8:16(NLT) For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
As Father God’s sons and daughters, we are His heirs, joint heirs with Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17.
Heirs have an inheritance, as God’s heirs we have a godly inheritance. This inheritance doesn’t change or decay, it is everlasting. It includes life, peace, joy, favor, the blessing.
In this inheritance every good and beneficial thing in life is catered for. Perhaps up till now all you’ve been looking to God for and expecting from Him is wages or a salary for serving him. This is the attitude that the elder son who remained at home in the parable of the prodigal son had. He spoke back to his father, ‘Look, all these years I have worked for you like a slave, and I have never disobeyed your orders. What have you given me? Not even a goat for me to have a feast with my friends! Luke 15:29 (GNB)
That wouldn’t be so bad if there wasn’t something way far bigger and better.
This elder son though he stayed at home with the father he like his younger brother had a hired servant mentality. The Father corrected him saying “Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours”. Luke 15:31.
In Christ Jesus we are always with the Father and all that He has is ours. This is our inheritance!
