The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalms 18:2 (NKJV)
Who God is He does. God does what or who He is. Therefore we can know God from what He does. Jesus told the disciples to believe Him for the sake of the works He did meaning that what He did is who He is.
God is salvation so He saves. God is a deliverer therefore He delivers.
The title or superscript at the head of Psalm 18 from which we’ve taken our theme Scripture says: A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.
David got revelations of certain aspects of who God is after what God did for him. Here we see this revelation of God the deliverer. God delivered David from the hand of all his enemies the chief of whom was king Saul.
As our deliverer God delivers us from our enemies. No matter how strong they may be He delivers us from those who hate us. Psalms 18:17 (NKJV) He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me.
God delivers us to bring us into liberty. He brings us to an enlarged open wide space – the life of increase, abundance and no limits. Psalms 18:19 (NIV) He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
He delivers us in such a way that He lifts us up above the challenges, troubles, dangers and every enemy up against us. Psalms 18:48 (AKJV) He delivers me from my enemies: yes, you lift me up above those that rise up against me: you have delivered me from the violent man.
God’s deliverance is such that He makes us the head and empowers us to reign. We get served where we were once slaves. He makes us victors where we were victims.
Psalms 18:43 (NIV) You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me.
This great God, whatever He does is great. He delivers us with a great deliverance which continues on to our children’s children forever! Psalms 18:50 (NIV) Great deliverance He gives to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed, To David and his descendants forevermore.
God is a deliverer. You can make it personal like David saying or singing – The Lord is my deliverer. He has delivered me.
