Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
Even though Christ has set us free if we go on to subject ourselves to anything we become its slave and so we end up living burdened and in bondage to it.
The love of money is devotion to and worship of it.
Our devotion and worship are meant exclusively for the One who created and sustains us – Our Father God. When we focus what’s God’s to another we corrupt both it and we ourselves. When we focus love and trust that’s meant for God to an inferior thing such as money, we end up corrupting it, others, and we ourselves. We become common and cheap even to the point of selling our soul for what’s vain. When material things or money become our god we end up doing all wickedness just in order to get and keep those things.
There’s only one way we can stay free from the love of money. Start seeing God as your one and only source, support and sustenance.
