For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11(NKJV)
A foundation is a structure upon which something is laid, built and or supported. As the foundation so goes what’s laid, built or supported on it. A weak foundation means even what’s laid, built, or supported on it won’t stand. A strong firm foundation sustains securely what’s laid, built or supported on it.
Every house has a foundation. Every house is built by someone. The builder of all things is God. Hebrews 3:4. He is the creator of all things. He created, made, or built all things on a firm, immovable foundation called Christ. Colossians 1:15 -17. Christ supports and sustains all creation. The only things built to last are those that are built on Christ. We build on this foundation through trusting him. We trust him by believing and acting on his words.
Jesus Christ himself told us in Matthew 7:24-27 that when we hear his words and act on them or in line with them, we are like a wise man who built his house on a rock (a firm foundation) when the rains descended, floods came, winds blew, and beat on this house it didn’t fall because it is was built on a rock (firm foundation). On the other hand, when we hear Jesus’ Words or the Word of God and do not act on them or in line with them then we are like a foolish man who built his house on sand (everything else we trust in that’s not Christ). When the rains descended, the floods came, the winds blew and beat on that house it fell and great was its fall.
The house is our life that includes our health, family, marriage, relationships, ministry, business, carrier, dreams, pursuits. It also means our cultural/religious beliefs, attitude, mindset, desires, convictions, experiences, habits, behaviors, socio-economic/political ideologies, and scientific theories. All these things are built. The rains, floods and winds beating against the house are all the circumstances in life that come to challenge and test all these things. Every one’s life, health, belief system, relationships, attitude, conviction will be challenged and tested. Depending on the foundation it was built on it will either stand or fall. If it was built on Christ, that is the the Word of God, it will stand firm. If it wasn’t built on Christ it will crumble. Christ is our only firm foundation.
