For this very reason, adding your diligence [to the divine promises], employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in [exercising] virtue [develop] knowledge (intelligence) 2 Peter 1:5 (AMPC)
Faith is living and active just like its source the Word -Hebrews 4:12.
This living active faith can be exercised to yield desired results. Firstly we exercise our faith by hearing the Word of God. The woman with the issue of blood got healed by exercising her faith. Jesus said to her “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” Mark 5:34.
How did she exercise her faith?
First of all she had heard the Word. Mark 5:27(AMPC) She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment. Notice that the correct original Greek tense is not ‘she heard’ but ‘she had heard’ She did not hear once but had kept on hearing. Faith comes by hearing and hearing- Romans 10:17.
She kept on hearing reports of Jesus the healer who went about healing all.
Faith for anything comes by hearing and hearing that thing. Whether healing, provision, strength, direction, or wisdom, as we continue to hear faith is released.
Secondly we exercise our faith by speaking the Word of God or words in line with the Word of God.
The woman with the issue of blood kept on speaking her healing even before she felt healed.
Mark 5:28 (AMPC) For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health.
Faith is released to work by speaking the Word of God or speaking words in line with the Word of God.
Again the correct original Greek tense is not ‘she said’ but ‘she kept saying’. She did not speak once but kept on speaking over and over.
Exercise your faith for whatever you desire by saying it out over and over.
Thirdly and lastly we exercise our faith by acting on what we hear and speak.
The woman did not stop at hearing and saying but acted in line with what she heard and said. She went ahead and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and she was healed- Mark 5:27-29.
You don’t have to be overly concerned about what actions to take that correspond to what you’re hearing and saying. Just watch out what you’re hearing and saying then you’ll know how to act and you’ll do it and see results.
