Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (AMPC)
We all know what it’s like to be caught off balance. It means caught unawares, unprepared, and not ready to respond appropriately. Now that’s disastrous. When we are not well balanced we are unstable and thus can’t stand the slightest change or resistance.
Imbalance is the number one weakness the devil exploits in striking down believers. We always only continue to be tempted, struggle, and fail in those areas where we are not well balanced.
Being well balanced is all about being fully alert and in control of yourself. It’s about being stable so that you’re neither easily moved nor topple.
There are two major areas where balance in our lives is critically determined: In our mind and in our mouth.
We should and can be well balanced in our mind or thinking.
1 Peter 1:13a (NLT) So think clearly and exercise self-control.
A well balanced mind or thinking leads to a well-balanced life. Our mind or thinking is well balanced when we yield and subject it to the Word of God which is forever settled, forever balanced, forever stable. Psalms 119:89 (NKJV) Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in heaven.
We should and can be well balanced with our mouth or tongue.
James 3:2-3(NLT) Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth.
A well balanced mouth or tongue or talking results into well balanced actions and life.
Our mouth, tongue or talk can only be well controlled or balanced by yielding and subjecting it to the Word of God.
Get the Word of God in your mouth, on your tongue. Get the balance of God. Get the divine stability in your life and affairs.
Joshua 1:8 (AMPC) This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.
