Come to Him [then, to that] Living Stone which men tried and threw away, but which is chosen [and] precious in God’s sight. 1 Peter 2:4 (AMPC)
Peter quoting Scripture from the Old Testament is employing construction imagery to bring out the contrast between God’s work and man’s work.
Jesus is the Living Stone which men tried and threw away. The Jewish nation rejected Jesus. They tried or judged Him, condemned and killed Him with the help of the Romans. They represent all of humanity – Jews and gentiles. All of us at one time lived in rejection of Jesus, preferring and choosing our own way. See- Romans 3:9-18. We all once rejected Him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life of God.
Everything God has constructed He used this Living Stone that’s chosen and precious in His sight. Colossians 1:16 (AMPC) For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him.
Peter goes on in quoting Old Testament Scriptures that this Living Stone is the Chief Cornerstone –See 1Peter 2:6- 7.
Jesus Christ is the true divine foundation, the basis, the support upon which everything is built and rests.
To come to this Living Stone, this Chief Cornerstone means to acknowledge and build all we are involved in on Jesus Christ and His finished work.
Build, base, and rest your life, family, friends, dreams, vision, ministry, work, business on Jesus Christ and His finished work.
Acknowledge Him as your life, peace, joy, wisdom, strength. Talk to Him and always consult Him about anything and everything that concerns you and others.
