I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 (AMPC)
There’s no such thing as fate, that what will be will be or what’s meant to happen will happen regardless of what we do or not do.
We have a choice in life. There are always two opposite options placed before us. Life and death, blessings and curses. We can choose life or death. We can choose blessings or curses.
But God has graciously admonished us to choose life and blessing.
Right from the beginning in the garden of Eden we’ve always had a choice. There in the garden Adam and Eve chose death. But glory to God Jesus came and gave us another shot at life. He’s the Good Shepherd who came that we may have life in abundance.
We choose with our tongue. Our tongue is like the rudder of a ship used to turn the ship in any direction desired. James 3:4-5 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
The tongue is the steering wheel of our body and our life. We proceed in the direction the tongue goes.
Proverbs 18:21 says death and life are in the power of the tongue. What we say comes to pass. When we speak death, we set it in motion. When we speak life, we activate it. The words of death bring death, life filled words release life. We choose life by speaking life.
The Word of God is health and life. Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they [are] life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
When we choose the Word of God, we have chosen life. Conducting our lives according to the Word of God is choosing life. For instance, the Word tells us to cast all our care upon the Lord for He cares for us. 1Peter 5:7. Acting in line with this Word is choosing life. Casting cares or worries on the Lord frees us from stress and oppression. On the other hand, when we hold onto cares or anxiety we get weighed down and this stress can bring sickness and eventual death. Today, intentionally choose God, choose His Word, choose life.
