For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he [is] a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. James 3:2 (NKJV)
The one most important area we must pay the most careful attention is our words. This is because our words are our making or our unmaking. The Scripture has told us that when we do not stumble in word then we are perfect. The Greek word there translated perfect means full grown or mature.
Even on the mental, emotional, and physical level it’s true that the more mature you are the better you’re at controlling yourself – your body, it’s movements, actions, responses, balance; your psyche – thoughts, intellect, will, and emotions.
Likewise even on the spiritual level maturity is when we are able to bridle or have control over our body or life. This is practiced and mastered in the area of watching and being careful with the words we speak. If you’re still careless in the area of your words you’re imperfect or immature and are not able to take charge of your life. You will always be like a child – unstable and always getting into trouble.
Many problems we are in are not because of the devil or other people or things but the thoughtless and careless words that keep coming out of our mouths. Matthew 12:36 (AMPC) But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, nonworking) word they speak.
So train yourself in being careful with your words then you will be able to master your life.
