Psalm 1:1 (AMPC) Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
The scornful and mockers are people in whose minds and ways God has no place. They think they don’t need God but can do it all on their own.
What they believe is the way to relax and rest is actually the path to being burdened and weighed down. The mindset of the scornful and mocker is; use your own strength to sweat more, accumulate more and hoard more, then you can sit back relax and rest for the rest of your life. But the problem with that is God and His help is nowhere included in there.
One scornful mocker also called the rich fool took to relaxing and resting because of what he had accumulated but unfortunately without God in the plan. It never worked out as he had purposed. Luke 12:16-20.
True relaxation and rest is found in recognizing, relying on and following the One who is truly relaxed and at rest – God Himself.
