Our orders–backed up by the Master, Jesus–are to refuse to have anything to do with those among you who are lazy and refuse to work the way we taught you. Don’t permit them to freeload on the rest. 2 Thessalonians 3:6 (MSG)
While we are designed to be interdependent and at the same time independent. We all share in this life and world God gave us, we need one another and we are to support each other. No man is an island so to speak. We need and depend on each other’s input. This is the interdependent part. But each and every one should play their part in all this. No one should neglect their responsibilities and expect others to carry the entire burden.
Paul admonishes us not to be lazy, refusing to work expecting a free meal from someone else. He says that what he’s directing is a direct order from the Master our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. God Himself the Creator and Owner of the universe works. We His children can’t be and live any differently.
We are commanded to work so we can eat our own bread.
When we do that then we avoid burdening others with taking care of us.
Then we also provide an example of diligence to others in the hope it proves contagious. 2Thessalonians 3:7-9 (MSG)
