But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21(NKJV)
As God’s child you’re not a vessel for dishonor in the house of your Father. In Christ you’re born and chosen for honor. Yet like the prodigal son you may be acting as a vessel of dishonor in some areas or the whole of your life. This is a life inferior to who you truly are as a child of God.The Scripture has not said that you change yourself from a vessel of wood or clay to become a vessel of gold or silver. The prodigal son didn’t have to become his father’s son. He already was. He only needed to change the way he saw himself.Cleansing yourself from what is dishonorable means you change your view of yourself. See yourself and so live as God’s gold purified in the fire of Christ’s sufferings in the Cross, made righteous and holy and therefore a vessel for righteous and holy living.
