When down-and-outers get a break, cheer! And when the arrogant rich are brought down to size, cheer! Prosperity is as short-lived as a wildflower, so don’t ever count on it. You know that as soon as the sun rises, pouring down its scorching heat, the flower withers. Its petals wilt and, before you know it, that beautiful face is a barren stem. Well, that’s a picture of the “prosperous life.” At the very moment everyone is looking on in admiration, it fades away to nothing. James 1:9-11(MSG)
To worldly minded men prosperity is all about more and more of things they can have all to themselves. Yet sadly in reality no one can have anything in this world all to himself why? Nothing in the physical material world lasts – it’s all temporary, it’s all fleeting. The things that are seen, felt or reasoned are momentary. Did you know that the more you heap up material wealth the more common it becomes and even the lesser it can become in value? It’s called inflation by the economists. Ask old wise king Solomon. He heaped up a lot of gold that it was a common commodity at his house. All the utensils in his palace were of pure gold! To understand what that means today gold is hid in high security vaults in banks! For Solomon gold was everywhere at his home! There was too much gold that silver which is today also a precious metal was considered as stones in Solomon’s time! But Solomon left it all and later it was carried off as loot when foreign forces fought and run down Jerusalem. So a true prosperous life is having and enjoying all things in Christ in whom alone all things exist, are held together, and sustained.
