The Greek word for adoption to sonship is a legal term referring to the full legal standing of an adopted male heir in Roman culture.
God’s ultimate purpose for us is sonship. He is our Father and we are His sons and daughters. The joy and fulfillment of parents in their children is when the children grow up into full maturity. God’s joy as a Father is for us to realize full maturity as sons in the exact likeness of His Son Jesus.
This starts in acknowledging our relationship with God as His beloved sons through Faith in Jesus Christ who Scripture calls the first born among many brethren. Romans 8:29
