Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). 1 Thessalonians 5:6 (AMPC)
The real deal is all about what the Lord is doing and so it’s the only action to watch out for.
Therefore being awake isn’t just about being aware of everything that’s happening around you. It’s watching out for the Master’s move that really matters.
When Jesus was born there were many other babies that were born at that time. When His Star appeared in the east there were numerous stars up there in the eastern skies that were shining bright at night. But the Magi were such wide awake that they noticed and recognized this one solo star that signaled the arrival of the One and only Bright Morning Star. They followed this star till they came to where He was, the Day Star, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
How were these wise men from the east able to keep wide awake? They had heard and or read and studied in some writings and searched about this star and the King it represented. They had kept on looking above in the sky watching out for something unusual there.
Keep wide awake reading, and studying the Word of God, searching in it the Bright and Morning Star. Watch out in your heart for Him – the Day Star far above all the drama and din happening around you. Watch out as you retreat into your quiet inward space.
See Jesus, see His Love for you, and see Him guiding you, instructing you concerning what’s most needful and important.
