11My foot has held fast to His steps; His ways have I kept and not turned aside. 12I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. Job 23:11-12 (AMPC)
What kept Job steadfast and on track was holding fast to the way of God.
He did not turn aside from the path of the Lord.At the start of his troubles Job’s wife told him to deny God and die.
According to her God had failed Job. But Job did not heed her. He did not turn against God. –See Job 2:9,10.
How could Job hold fast to the way of God, how could he not deny Him despite all he went through?Job desired God’s Word. He says in our theme Scripture – “I have esteemed and treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.”To desire God’s Word is to take it as ‘more than our necessary food’.
Just as we eat everyday not out of duty or under duress, not just for pleasure or leisure but because our life depends on it, we ought to eat the Word so to speak not because we are under commandment or compulsion, but because our very life depends on it. The Word is Life and living – See Hebrews 4:12.
It is Life to all who find it and healing and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22.We were born of the Word – 1Peter 1:23. We grow by the Word 1Peter 2:2.
Therefore set your heart and mind on the Word of God. Spend time in the Word. Read the Word. Listen to the Word.
Study the Word. Confess the Word. Meditate on the Word. Act according to the Word. Share the Word with others. That’s how you desire the Word. That’s how you walk steadfastly in the way of God, the way of success.
