He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits is lacking in sense and is without understanding. Proverbs 12:11 (AMPC)
We all have been handed an assignment to accomplish. Each one of us has a duty station with specific unique tasks and goals.
Our livelihood, all the things requisite for life are connected with where we’ve been stationed in life.
Scripture says that people are served where they serve.
1 Corinthians 9:13-14 (NIV) Don’t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.
From the beginning God’s plan for man included tending to and watching over something. Work is how the life, energy, and gifts that God placed in man are released to benefit man and bring glory to God.
It is satisfaction to man and worship to God.
Genesis 2:8, 15 (AMPC) 8And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden [delight]; and there He put the man whom He had formed (framed, constituted).
15And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.
Because God made you in His image and likeness, put His Spirit in you, divine life, energies, resources and gifts are on the inside of you not to sleep wasted there but to be aroused and released to benefit humanity, bring you satisfaction and bring glory to God.
So, your land that you have to till means the areas in life where the life, energy and gifts of God inside you are best put to use and service. Your land is your sphere of influence.
God planted a garden in Eden which means delight and put man there to tend, guard and keep it.
This means work isn’t and shouldn’t be a depressing duty but rather a dynamite delight! If you don’t find delight in what you’re doing most probably you’re not in your God planted, assigned field. There’s no bread there, that’s why you are not satisfied.
Your God calling, ministry, work, job, business is your assigned land, field, or garden.
Tilling your land is releasing and using the life, energies and gifts God put in you where they benefit humanity and glorify the Lord.
It’s putting yourself to use in your particular God vocation.
Another way the Word of God puts tilling your land is “mind your own business”
1 Thessalonians 4:11-12(NIV) and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
Every time we are not fully engaged in our particular assigned post, we are acting like a farmer who neglects his land.
To follow worthless pursuits is to engage yourself in anything you’re not divinely called, built or gifted for regardless of how popular, prestigious or money making it may be.
Your land are the things in your heart that you know you should be engaged in. Follow your heart’s pursuits, immerse yourself in them. That’s how you’ll benefit others, find personal satisfaction and bring glory to God.
