For the LORD builds up Zion; he appears in his glory; he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer. Psalm 102:16-17(ESV)
Psalm 102 is a prayer of one who is troubled complaining to the Lord. He starts by begging God to hear his prayer (Psalm 102:1-2), talks about his pain and suffering (Psalm 102:3-7), then he talks about what his enemies are doing to him (Psalm 102:8), and he blames God for all his troubles (Psalm 102:10).Even today most people pray like that. But that isn’t based on the truth and so doesn’t work. From Psalm 102:12 the psalmist awakens to and sees God for who He really is and what He does. Instead of complaining and blaming he declares who God truly is and the good He does. The psalmist now sees and so connects with the God who is for us – building us, the God who doesn’t ignore but positively responds to our prayer.Stop begging God, talking about your problems and enemies, and blaming God. Start declaring who God is, what He can do, has done and will do. This is prayer, this is connecting with God.
