Words can either Hurt, or Heal

October 6, 2026 John Nsamba Comments off Devotions

Sharp words cut like a sword, but words of wisdom heal. Proverbs 12:18 (CEV)

Words are spirit – John 6:63 and that means their impact affects the very core of our being. We shouldn’t underestimate and ignore the effects of words. Just like we are very careful with sharp, cutting objects like knives we should be extra careful with words. Sharp physical objects only cut and harm at the physical level but words are spiritual weapons that can inflict wounds that go for a life time. Negative, discouraging, belittling, mocking, humiliating, demeaning, shaming, threatening, abusive words should not be part of our speech. The hurt and harm they inflict can damage a person for life as well as turn that person into hurt and harm to others and their environment. On the other hand, positive, encouraging, kind, edifying, complimentary, uplifting, affirming, appreciative, comforting words should be our every day language. The healing and health they impact in a person is for a lifetime and they transform that person into healing, health and wholeness to others as well as the world around them.
