Luke 18:9 (NIV) To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
In this parable (Luke 18:9-13) Jesus speaks about two men who were praying to God and one who was religious boasted in his own efforts and so placed his confidence in what he could do to be justified before God. The other who was a sinner acknowledged his inadequacy in himself and therefore his need for God’s mercy. His confidence was in God. Jesus revealed that this sinner who counted on and called out to God’s help was justified before God but the other religious self-confident one wasn’t. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. Luke 18:14.
Do not put your confidence in your human goodness, works, merits, or achievements because all these are bound to let you down. Place your confidence in God – in His Grace, Mercy, and Love for you and you will not only be lifted up but you will always remain standing.
