A soldier on duty doesn’t get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. 2 Timothy 2:4 (MSG)
A soldier doesn’t have to cater for his upkeep because he is taken care of by those who enlisted him. This is very crucial otherwise he would be distracted and so fail in his mission.
Christ enlisted us as His soldiers; He’s responsible for our upkeep.
We don’t have to be distracted trying to make deals outside of and inconsistent with the mission we’ve been assigned in order to fend for ourselves.
Gehazi who was the prophet Elisha’s attendant left his mission and post, secretly and deceptively got provisions for himself against God’s leading. He ended up with a disease. 2 Kings 5:20-27. The lesson here is we don’t have to employ the world’s methods of scheming and manipulating to get what we need because it ends in sorrow. The One who called and enlisted us has already offered us a deal that deals with all that we require for life.
