The LORD [is] gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. Psalm 145:8 (NKJV)
Regarding God’s character what first comes to most people’s mind is that God is Holy and that’s true. But then they explain God’s holiness as being separate, that God is exclusively separate, all by Himself apart from His creation. But how can a gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy God be separate and apart from His beloved creation especially man whom he created in His image to share everything with him? How could a loving God separate and keep Himself away from a hurt, suffering and oppressed creation? Holiness which is God’s character is wholeness and freedom from all brokenness, bruises, defilement, oppression, and corruption. God reveals and expresses His Holiness to us and in us and to ultimately to all creation by being gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy to us. This is what Jesus went about revealing and doing to sinners, the sick, the broken, the unclean, the hurt, and the rebellious. The true character of God is wholeness and being free from all corruption and defilement.
