For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. 1 Thessalonians 5:2 (AMPC)
The return of the Lord Jesus which here we are looking at as the day of the Lord is not about doom and gloom for humanity. It’s not about Jesus coming back to take revenge and punish people. Jesus bore the punishment of sin, died, and rose for people.
The return or the day of the Lord is about Jesus coming back to once and for all put an end to all rule, authority and power and deliver the kingdom to God the Father-1 Corinthians 15:24.
This glorious day is about Jesus putting all enemies under His feet- Corinthians 15:25.
It’s about Jesus coming back to once and for all put an end to man’s greatest and worst enemy – death.
1 Corinthians 15:26 (NKJV) The last enemy [that] will be destroyed [is] death.
Jesus is literally coming back for us to receive us to Himself so we will forever be and live physically with Him where He is forever. John 14:2-3 (NKJV) In My Father’s house are many mansions; if [it were] not [so,] I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, [there] you may be also.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is coming back to change our physical mortal bodies into supernatural immortal ones that are not subject to limitation, weakness, sickness, aging, and death. This means those who are dead at the coming of the Lord will be raised to life and those alive will have their bodies transformed to be like that of Jesus which can never die but lives forever-1Corinthians 15:51-54.
Therefore we should be looking forward to the day or return of the Lord.
We shouldn’t be terrified of the day of the Lord. We can have confidence and not be ashamed at His coming because we abide in Him-1John 2:28.
We know and are sure we abide in Him through faith in Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. 1 John 4:15(NKJV) Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
